Who is Gustafer Yellowgold?

Here is an introduction to the main characters from Gustafer Yellowgold's world:
Gustafer Yellowgold: An Earth-loving immigrant from the sun, he is 10 years old in Earth years, according to creator Morgan Taylor, but slightly older in sun years. (Taylor isn't sure exactly how many sun years equal an Earth year, but he says Gustafer was old enough to leave home and settle in a remote part of Minnesota.) Gustafer has a passion for jumping on cakes and smashing pies.
Forrest Applecrumbie: This flightless pterodactyl is Gustafer's best friend. He is eccentric and fashion-obsessed. (He loves tuxedos.) He lives in a cave not far from Gustafer's house and is always available when Gustafer wants to talk.
Slim: A bright purple eel, Slim is forever indebted to Gustafer: The Sunpod that carried Gustafer to Earth landed in a lake where Slim was swimming and inadvertently crushed a predator about to eat Slim. Gustafer adopted Slim as his house pet. Slim sleeps in tube socks and is Gustafer's constant companion.
Asparagus: This dragon is another pet Gustafer rescued; he was found abandoned in a barn. Asparagus lives in Gustafer's fireplace.

Tricyle Music Festival 2008

The Public Library of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County is pleased to announce the official line-up for Tricycle Music Festival 2008:

They Might Be Giants:
Sunday, June 15th One Day Only!
ImaginOn: The Joe and Joan Martin Center
McColl Family Theatre 1 pm & 4pm
Ticket reservations are required for ImaginOn performances
Please call 704-973-2828 for ticket reservations
Tickets are limited to four reservations per adult.

In a singular career, perhaps no turn has been more unlikely than They Might Be Giants’ emergence as one of America’s most popular creators of children’s music. Leading the charge of what is now a full-blown movement of creative musicians looking to save tots (and parents!) from the shrinking world of mainstream children’s music, TMBG’s kids’ projects have become the gold standard of the industry. The alternative rock legends entered the world of kids' stuff in 2002 with their self-styled kids album "No!" Prepare to be delighted as They Might Be Giants triumphantly return to the world of kids stuff with their new CD & DVD set "Here Come the 123s."

Last year, the Jellydots were the first ever band to play for the Tricycle Music Festival rocking out with songs from Hey You Kids! Now the Jellydots have returned to Charlotte with their sophomore album of Changing Skies. At times they rock, at times they’re sweet, but the Jellydots resonate with parents and kids alike.

Noted as one of the freshest voices in kindie rock, Frances England originally created Fascinating Creatures as a fundraiser for her son's preschool and never thought that anyone outside of her own circle of family and friends would hear it. But thanks to the Internet, the power of word-of-mouth and some great reviews, the cd began making its way into people's homes across the country and as far away as Europe, Asia, and Australia. Frances lives in San Francisco with her husband John, their four year-old son, Liam and new baby boy, Rowan. Aside from music, Frances also works at her son’s cooperative preschool and is getting her master’s degree in library science.

It was snowing in Charlotte today, so Gustafer Yellowgold put on his red scarf and decided to ride the light rail so he could go exploring.

Gustafer bought a ticket and waited for the train at 7th Street Station, across from ImaginOn.

Wow! The train was bigger than he thought.

The seats were nice, but Gustafer really wanted to sit by the window.

Gustafer liked it when the train went really fast.

End of the line!

What did Gustafer Yellowgold read this weekend?

Gustafer checked out several books by the wonderful Dr. Suess.

Green Eggs and Ham, One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish, and Horton Hears a Who! were a fun read.

Next Gustafer delved into the world of Roald Dahl. The BFG is a terrific book and the Children's Theatre of Charlotte will soon be putting on the play.

Gustafer LOVES comic books, and nothing is better than Batman graphic novels, which Gustafer found in the Teen Loft at ImaginOn.

Finally, Gustafer read all about his upcoming concerts in Check it Out magazine.
Pick up your own copy at any of the PLCMC branches.

Gustafer Yellowgold got a library card!

Gustafer sat in the library shelves, sad that he could not check out a book. Suddenly, he had an idea. He could get a library card and then he could check out all the books that he wants!

But where could he get a library card?

Gustafer went to the Circulation desk, where a nice staff member helped him fill out a library card application. In no time, Gustafer had his library card!

Gustafer checked out some of his favorite picture books so he could do some light reading over the weekend.

What will Gustafer do next? Check back later to find out!

Gustafer Yellowgold LOVES to read!
